Latin American Football and FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
We return as we do every week with the Latin American Football Roundup, this time focusing on the previous matchday of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The South American qualifiers are probably the most exciting in the world and this week they have provided us with some amazing matches, surprises and great goals.
The qualification table is getting tighter and tighter and each one of the teams is looking to become one of the 6 teams that will have a guaranteed place in the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Argentina beats Chile without Messi.
Although we are already seeing the twilight of Lionel Messi’s extraordinary career, Argentina has repeatedly made it clear that it has quality players to continue on the path to success.
Against Chile, the Albiceleste controlled the match from start to finish and won 2-0 with goals from Julian Alvarez and Paulo Dybala.
On this occasion, the number 10 jersey was worn by Dybala, who honored Messi with an incredible left-footed shot that served to seal the score against the ‘Roja’.
With this result, Argentina remains in undisputed first place with 18 points. Chile, on the other hand, has only 5 points in 7 matches and remains second to last in the qualifying table, only ahead of Peru.
Uruguay was unable to break Paraguay’s lock on Luis Suarez’s farewell.
Luis Suárez, Uruguay’s all-time leading scorer and second top scorer in the Latin American Football qualifiers, retired from the national team last week in the match against Paraguay.
The Uruguayan national team looked throughout the match to take the lead, but Paraguay’s stout defense held firm, just as it has in its recent matches.
In addition, Uruguay was severely affected by the large number of injured players in their squad. Players such as Darwin Núñez, Ronald Araujo and Rodrigo Bentancur were unable to attend these matches.
With this result, Uruguay remains in second place with 14 points. Paraguay reached the seventh place in the standings with six points, tied with Bolivia..
Colombia suffered a draw in Lima
One of the most exciting matches of the day was presented by Peru and Colombia.
The Inca team began dominating in the first 15 minutes of the match, but was unable to transfer its dominance to the scoreboard.
Colombia imposed its game for most of the match. However, in the 68th minute, Alexander Callens scored the 1-0 after a cross from Peña. This is only Peru’s second goal in the qualifiers.
To the sadness of the Peruvians, Luis Diaz scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute, closing the scoreboard and keeping Peru out of the World Cup.
Colombia remains in third place with 13 points. Peru remains in last place with only three points.
Brazil gets a lackluster win against a timid Ecuador.
Brazil managed to calm the waters after the failure of the Copa América with a tenuous victory over Ecuador.
With a goal by Rodrygo, a Real Madrid player, the ‘canarinha’ managed to defeat an Ecuadorian team that was timid and conservative.
Although they attacked little, Ecuador seemed to have enough tools to hurt the Brazilian goal, but their new coach Sebastián Beccacece decided not to risk too much in the match.
With this victory, Brazil moves up to fourth place with 10 points and overtakes Venezuela. Ecuador has 8 points and remains in sixth place.
Bolivia is reborn at high altitude and beats Venezuela 4-0.
The Bolivian national team decided to change its home stadium, leaving behind the Hernando Siles stadium in La Paz to play matches in the city of El Alto.
The stadium is located at an altitude of 4095 meters, the highest in the country. With these conditions, Bolivia received Venezuela with great expectations.
Relying on the effects of the altitude, Bolivia built a complete masterpiece against the Venezuelan team from the very first minute. With a great shot by Ramiro Vaca in the 13th minute, Bolivia set off on the road to this historic victory.
A disorganized Venezuela was unable to contain the Bolivian attacks or breach the opposing goal. Goals by Alcarañaz, Terceros and Monteiro closed the scoring.
With this result, Bolivia climbs to eighth place with six points. Meanwhile, Venezuela remains in fifth place with 9 points, looking for the dream of attending its first World Cup.

The player of the day is none other than Ramiro Vaca. The Bolivian midfielder was key to his team’s historic victory in El Alto.
In addition, he also scored the best goal of the day with a powerful shot from outside the box that beat the resistance of Venezuelan goalkeeper Rafael Romo.
