Manchester United vs Liverpool (0-3)
Match Overview:
Liverpool defeated Manchester United with a commanding 3-0 victory. Luis Diaz was the star of the first half, scoring twice within a span of seven minutes (35th and 42nd minutes), while Mohamed Salah sealed the game with a well-taken goal in the 56th minute. Despite Manchester United having slightly more possession (53% vs. 47%), they were unable to convert their dominance into meaningful chances.
Key Moments:
- Luis Diaz’s Goals: Diaz’s first goal came from a well-executed cross that found him in the box, and he finished clinically. The second goal showcased his ability to capitalize on defensive lapses, as he swiftly intercepted a loose ball and beat the goalkeeper, Onana.
- Mohamed Salah’s Goal: Salah extended Liverpool’s lead in the second half with a composed finish following a quick breakaway that caught Manchester United’s defense off guard.
Defensive and Goalkeeping Analysis:
- Manchester United: Despite having more possession, United’s defense was vulnerable, particularly during counterattacks. Onana had a poor outing as he did not make any saves, highlighting defensive frailties and a lack of protection from the midfield.
- Liverpool: Goalkeeper Alisson was pivotal in maintaining Liverpool’s clean sheet, making three outstanding saves that denied Manchester United from getting back into the match. His performance was a testament to Liverpool’s defensive organization and his individual brilliance.
Attack and Counter-Attack Performance:
- Both teams managed three shots on target, but Liverpool’s clinical finishing made the difference.
- Both teams attempted three counter-attacks, but Liverpool’s were more effective due to their swift transitions and incisive finishing.
Concluding Statement:
Liverpool’s solid start to the season, with three wins from three matches, places them as strong contenders for the league title. Their balanced attack and strong defensive organization will make them tough to beat. Manchester United, on the other hand, has been inconsistent with just one win and two losses. They need to address their defensive vulnerabilities and goal-scoring issues to improve their league standing and challenge for a top position.

Ohkay I read thru it was a general analysis I was going to make comments on the first goal that was broken away from Casemiro, I think the ref should have called it in as a foul
– Secondly I think it was very obvious that Onana is not a good fit for Manchester United not being able to make saves In a match that big
– More so I think the game was majorly liverpool capitalizing on manchesters errors and utilizing speed and fast breakaways so if clubs stop them from making fast breakaways, I think they’d struggle to be league contenders
– Lastly Man U needs a new keeper.
