The European football transfer market has witnessed a flurry of activities this season, with record-breaking transfers, surprising moves, and strategic signings reshaping the landscape of major football leagues. The summer transfer window of 2024 has followed the trajectory of other seasons where major transfers are made, with top clubs from the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 engaging in high-stakes negotiations. Major moves include Kylian Mbappé’s free transfer to Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho’s unexpected signing for Turkish giant- Fenerbahce, and several emerging talents to Europe’s elite clubs.
The most talked-about transfer of the summer so far saw Kylian Mbappé join Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer. Mbappe joined the French Champions- PSG in 2017 from AS Monaco for a world-record deal for a teenager, worth €180 million ($195.4m). In just six years, Mbappe is the highest goalscorer in all competitions for PSG with 256 goals in 308 matches. This demonstrates the talent Mbappe will bring to an established squad like Real Madrid.

In a surprising turn of events, Jose Mourinho signed for the Turkish giant, Fenerbahce. Mourinho, who had been out of work after his dismissal from Roma in January, was appointed as the new manager of Fenerbahce last week. The Turkish club held a ceremony at Ulker Stadium in Istanbul to welcome Mourinho, with thousands of fans gathering inside and outside the ground. Mourinho has won a staggering 26 major trophies, including two Champions League titles and three Premier Leagues. Mourinho began with a Champions League qualifier victory over Lugano. Time will tell on how successful he will be at the club but the beginning looks promising.

Shifting attention to the premier league. Chelsea have been very active again. They have signed Tosin Adarabioyo on a Bosman deal from Fulham, Aston Villa youngster Omari Kellyman, Barcelona forward Marc Guiu, Leicester promotion hero Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga from Basel and Caleb Wiley. Brazilian wonderkid Estevao joined from Palmeiras for a whopping €61 million, although the youngster will only arrive in 2025. Manchester United are investing handsomely this summer. They have signed Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for €42.5 million and Lille’s Leny Yoro for an initial €62 million. Manchester United released Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial on a free transfer. Willy Kambwala and Donny van de Beek have been sold to Spanish clubs Villarreal and Girona, respectively.
Manchester City, the Premiership champions in 2023/24 season, paid €25 million for winger Savinho from Troyes. They sold Taylor Harwood-Bellis to Southampton for €23 million, Liam Delap to Ipswich for €17.85 million, and Tommy Doyle to the Wolves for €5 million. Liverpool also released Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, and Adrian on a free transfer. Arsenal have finalized the permanent transfer of David Raya from Bournemouth. They are poised to acquire Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for €50 million. Additionally, Arsenal has released Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares. Tottenham has secured the signing of Leeds United prodigy Archie Gray for a reported €41.2 million. Furthermore, they have outmaneuvered Barcelona to sign Lucas Bergvall and have re-signed Timo Werner on loan after his six-month spell with the club last season.
The summer transfer window of 2024 has set the stage for an exciting football season, with high-profile transfers and strategic signings promising to reshape the competitive landscape across Europe’s top leagues. As the new season kicks off, fans and analysts alike will be eager to see how these moves translate into on-field performances and impact the race for domestic and continental titles.

Mbape Signing was really surprising o. I am afraid Real Madrid might keep carrying the champion’s League cup in next two seasons 😂. I am not sure any club is ready to counter them
I know it will be almost impossible for Real Madrid to lose next season especially to FC Barcelona. With the help of VMB, Vini JR, Mbappe and BELLINGHHAM. All Barcelona Fans can do next season is pray to even beat us let alone them winning any trophy. And the 17yr Lamine Yamal can’t do anything about it.It’s good to hear from a fellow HALAMADRID FAN.
Thanks so much for your contribution.
